From the organizer:

Zo Projec is organizing workshops regarding bookbinding and paper dying with the help of their artist in residence Saghi Parkhideh. The workshops will take place in two parts First part will cover Shibori dye and paper marbling which will help participants to make books at the second workshop, Bookbinding.

***Workshop 1: Shibori and marbling

Shibori is a Japanese dyeing technique that typically involves folding, twisting or bunching cloth and paper and binding them, then dyeing it in indigo or other inks. There are many different kind of Shibori using different materials and ways of inking but what is mostly used for paper is Itajime shibori. Itajime shibori is a shaped-resist technique. Traditionally, the cloth or paper is sandwiched between two pieces of wood, which are held in place with string.

Marbling is the art of printing multi-colored swirled or stone-like patterns on paper or fabric. The patterns are formed by first floating the colors on the surface of a liquid, and then laying the paper or fabric onto the colors to absorb them.Through several centuries, people have applied marbled materials to a variety of surfaces. It is often employed as a writing surface for calligraphy, and especially book covers and endpapers in bookbinding and stationery. Part of its appeal is that each print is a unique monotype. With this technique, you can make a decorative paper to use further for the cover or the folio of your books during bookbinding workshop estimated happen on 4/11.
