Exhibition: 24 – 30 Oct 2011
Vietnam Fine Arts Museum

From Vietnam Fine Arts Museum:
You are invited to the painting exhibition “Timelessness”. “Timelessness” is the first painting exhibition of the 3+ group including three authors from Hai Phong City: Bui Duy Khanh, Mai Duy Minh, Vu Ngoc Vinh. Every member has his own reason for living with art.

Three members of the 3+ group have the common point of paying attentions to the real life with variety of themes, from human universal philosophy to the times stories and simple and beautiful landscapes in the daily life although everyone has his own reason for art. They hope that they will not only follow this way but also carry many other colleagues along, making a new realistic painting trend in Vietnam: It will escape from rationalistic realistic descriptions to become the realistic painting of “one’s heart and mind” (Thai Ba Van, art critic).

About artists

Bui Duy Khanh (born in 1972) has loved painting since his childhood and learned to paint from a school teacher. Life with a lot of ups and downs seemed to take him far away from painting. However, painting as his childhood hobby is more like a part of his identity which cannot be cleansed in his mind and heart. The life is not always with ups and downs that like his love for painting cannot disappear. Now, his peaceful life gives him more time free, taking back his hobby of painting. In 2010, he learned to paint watercolor from a foreigner friend. His instinctive talent and true passion for painting helps to make his pieces of art full of his personal feelings. His paintings partly express his life peacefulness which is his reality as well as his lifetime dream. Although there are some mistakes of painting technique in his pieces but audience cannot easily deny the attractive descriptions of waves there. Most of his paintings are sea – pieces.

Vu Ngoc Vinh (born in 1978) is the only member working in Hanoi now. He has studied at the department of Fine – Arts Pedagogics – the Vietnam Fine – Arts University. He has had long time to earn his living by painting although he always thought himself that was not the best way to live and work with art. He understands that art means creativity finally. Therefore, his paintings in this exhibition are results of his creation which is completely with his heart and soul for the first time in his life. They express his concerns in today’s real life with pulling – about and loss and hopes.

Mai Duy Minh (born in 1976) is the most experienced member in the group. He had two solo exhibitions in Hanoi and the second one, Dust of Life, organized by the Goethe Institute, was said remarkable in his art life. In that exhibition, Mr Xavier Augustin, the director of the Institute, said: “Does not  follow contemporary art alternatives, Mai Duy Minh is the unique which is worthily notable in the younger generation of artists in Hanoi.” Continuing the style of harmonizing the realistic and surrealistic school in the last solo exhibition, Mai Duy Minh introduces the biggest painting in his art life till now, titled Promising Land, at size 540cm (width) x 200cm (height). This is certainly the biggest painting exhibited nationwide in Vietnam this year. The painting takes audience back to the basic matter of human life which has not been completely resolved although they themselves have been building the global civilized human life: the matter of bread and butter. It is actually the poor’s daily problem. However, it is sometimes a possession in the rich’s unconsciousness which influences their spiritual life and might take away their free and happy lives some time.
