Exhibition: 08 May-06 June 2009

An exhibition of recent work by Nguyen Duc Tu.

Nguyen Duc Tu’s work defies the laws of physics. The exhibition comprises an interactive video projection and digitally woven panoramic photographs depicting vistas of Hanoi and Saigon as layered distortions of time and space.

In these still and sometimes unsettling worlds, mute characters appear repeatedly within the same landscape. The recurrence of the subject comments on the déjà vu quality of human experience. It explores the notion that our daily actions overlap repeatedly throughout the progression of time.

In one image several subjects are frozen noiselessly in mid-air. Initially they appear to be part of the same landscape but on closer inspection we see that their shadows are cast in different directions shattering the illusion of one congruous moment in time.

Nguyen Duc Tu was born in Hanoi in 1982 and educated at Hanoi Open University. Past exhibitions include Diary of a Traveling City at San Art in Ho Chi Minh City, Re- imagining the City organized by the British Council in Hanoi and LOOK AT ME in Cheongju City, Korea.

This exhibition was recently in Hanoi.
