Since 2010, the series of Hanoi – Saigon (or Saigon- Hanoi, based on the place of exhibition) sculpture exhibitions have taken place alternately in the two cities, every two years. Besides introducing the newest or never-displayed artworks, the exhibitions have been the venues for sculptors in two cities to share with one another working opportunities and career direction, promoting one’s own creation, discovering new faces in the country’s growing sculptors community.

Hanoi – Saigon sculptors group, founded in 2010, has their initial goals as building up and developing a new community spirit in sculpture as well as bringing sculptural work closer to the public. Therefore, together with the alternate exhibitions in two cities, the group also looks forwards to the model of displaying artworks in spaces more accessible to younger generations, especially those studying and working in the fields of culture and arts. Three past exhibitions took place in sequence in Ho Chi Minh City University of Fine Arts, Hanoi University of Culture, Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Association and this time will be at Hanoi Architectural University. The group has been supported very well by those institutions and organization.

In this 4th time, there are 28 sculptors with 56 artworks, the most than ever. One can see the large distance of generations between members, some born in the end of 1940s and 1950s while others born in the 1970s and even the end of 1980s. This, together with the differences in characteristics of artists, in environments of studying and working, will bring to the public the richness and diversity of creative trends and attitudes. And it is the first time that the exhibition welcomes a young Vietnamese artist studying and living in the USA, Le Hoai Nam. He had his first ever solo exhibition in Hanoi in 2011. The diversity in dimensions and materials, such as wood, welded iron, inox, bronze, mixed media, etc… will help the public to see better the qualifications, the professional courage and aesthetic experiences of each sculptor, of the whole group as an interesting part of the contemporary Vietnamese sculpture.

In parallel with the exhibition is an art talk, titled Sculpture with space and architecture, taking place also at Hanoi Architectural University, from 9:00am, Dec., 13th, 2016, moderated by Vu Huy Thong, the art researcher at the Vietnam University of Fine Art Research Institute.
