From San Art:
You are invited to a solo exhibition of artist Truong Cong Tung “Above the Sky, Under the Sea”. The exhibiton will comprise drawings and paintings on canvas and ceramic illustrating Tung’s psychological exploration of interior and exterior spaces. They are like mind maps that give pictures to his inner questions about how he interacts with the world, how he pushes his ideas with his art.

Based in Ho Chi Minh City, Truong Cong Tung is a recent graduate of the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts University and committed to challenging his artistic ideas and technique through dialog and experimentation.

A regular visitor to San Art, Tung’s artistic journey is testament to a young mind traveling the history of ideas through art and culture.

Trained in the Vietnamese art of lacquer, Tung has a particular skill in pushing paint across a surface, understanding that paucity in color can create dramatic effect. In these works, the influence of architecture, cartography and science fiction are evident in his choice of subject, where aerial maps and astronauts dance across various surfaces. Tung’s choice of medium demonstrates the artists’ keen observation of the relationship between substance and idea, where the nature of the material (its fragility or porousness) relates directly to his opinions on the human condition.
