From the organizer:

CFGNY will present an overview lecture of the collective’s artistic practice, ranging from their work in fashion and garment production to their site specific, research-based institutional exhibitions. The lecture will focus on several projects that highlight the breadth of the collective’s eclectic body of work. Over the past 9 years, CFGNY has continuously investigated its concept of the ‘vaguely Asian’, an understanding of racial identity as a specific cultural experience combined with the experience of being perceived as Other within a diasporic American context. CFGNY will discuss the ways in which they have explored the ‘vaguely Asian’ through their work throughout various mediums. The collective uses fashion as ready-made material, architectural installation, performance, sculpture, photography and other means to research the ways in which material assemblage and reproduction play a part in the formation and racialization of identity and subjectivity.
