About project: “Sound Ride” is a project initiated by the sound artist duo Siedl/Cao.

The project takes the form of sonic rides on motorcycles through the cities of Hanoi, Da Nang, and Quy Nhon – where 20 participants wore helmets adorned with traditional Vietnamese kite flutes, generating a haunting polyphonic drone that weaves through the fabric of the urban cacophony. The ride not only reveals hidden layers of a place but also invites participants and passersby to contemplate on ourselves within the city’s rhythms, its hidden geographies, its social complexities, and its historical roots.

In this sonic ride, the two artists create a dynamic interplay between the city’s auditory fabric and the organic resonance of mobile wind instruments, reimagining the experience of urban space. The essence of “Sound Ride” lies in this intentional shift of perception — using wind-generated sound, created through one’s own movement, as a lens to ‘see’ the landscape and its inhabitants anew. The simple act of a human body consciously moving through space, actively sensing and responding to the environment, generates a resonance that extends beyond the immediate moment.

HANOI GRAPEVINE’s FINEST is an annual event that honors contemporary art projects in Vietnam. The event is organized and nominated by Hanoi Grapevine and the general audience.

Entering its 6th year, Hanoi Grapevine’s Finest aims to go beyond an annual honouring event to become a contemporary archive of Vietnam’s art and cultural landscape, as well as a foundational platform to promote interdisciplinary collaborations both domestically and internationally, towards an open, fair, and transparent ecosystem.

This year, Hanoi Grapevine’s Finest 2024-2025 is divided into two major categories: Honouring and Recognition. Nominations are selected based on sets of criteria that aim to highlight the developmental significance and scale of impact, including activity level, community impact, creativity, organisational capability and artistic quality.
