About project: “Di sản trong lòng phố” (lit. Heritage in the Heart of the City) is a project initiated by Vietnam Intangible Culture Heritage Center (VICH), focusing on the art of xẩm singing to connect modern audiences with traditional arts and culture. The project consists of performances with a maximum audience of 50 people, featuring songs, stories and activities that recreate a glimpse of the traditional culture and social history of ancient Vietnamese people. The xẩm performance group consists of young, enthusiastic performers with diverse specialisations, such as archiving, research, education and performing both locally and internationally.

Through different performances and activities, the project brings stories and portrayals of traditional art practitioners, artists and artisans closer to the public, contributing to the preservation and development of Vietnam’s traditional arts.

In 2024, the project organised 10 xẩm performances at ancient houses in Hanoi, recreating the atmosphere of Hanoi in the old times. Their two main themes are “Xẩm Tonkin” for young audiences and foreigners, and “Xẩm Gia đình” for grandparents, parents and schoolchildren.

HANOI GRAPEVINE’s FINEST is an annual event that honors contemporary art projects in Vietnam. The event is organized and nominated by Hanoi Grapevine and the general audience.

Entering its 6th year, Hanoi Grapevine’s Finest aims to go beyond an annual honouring event to become a contemporary archive of Vietnam’s art and cultural landscape, as well as a foundational platform to promote interdisciplinary collaborations both domestically and internationally, towards an open, fair, and transparent ecosystem.

This year, Hanoi Grapevine’s Finest 2024-2025 is divided into two major categories: Honouring and Recognition. Nominations are selected based on sets of criteria that aim to highlight the developmental significance and scale of impact, including activity level, community impact, creativity, organisational capability and artistic quality.
