From the organizer:

AirHue and Goethe-Institut Hanoi call for proposals from Vietnamese artists, curators, researchers, and cultural workers to participate in the residency program in Huế. This program aims to foster dialogue between residents and local cultural spaces, grounding contemporary practice in place while engaging global perspectives.

Anchored by three core principles – work-based residency, experimental research, and community engagement – we strive to empower creative thinkers and practitioners to bring their ideas to fruition and share their realized projects with our
audiences.

Through this residency program, by fostering artistic innovation across mediums such as moving images, installation, painting, sculpture, performance, and sound art, we aim to nurture talent and create social value through exchange and cultural exploration.

One project will be selected from this application round, and the residency will take place between November 15, 2025, and February 15, 2026. The grant package includes residency fees, a travel support fund, and a production fund.

What you can expect from this residency:

Mentorship and Support: The artist will be supported by the AirHue team during the residency, creating and realizing the project. At the end of the residency, AirHue will also support the artist to organize an open studio / a workshop or art talk program.

Sponsorship Package: Our sponsorship package waives the residency fee (USD 2,250/3 months) which covers accommodation (studio with electricity and wifi), administrative support (coordinator and management), and team assistance (curator and producer).

Financial Support: The package includes support for travel expenses (up to USD 200) and a production fund (up to USD 1,000; including costs for the open studio event, with the amount determined based on your project proposal).

Criteria

This call is open for emerging Vietnamese artists of all disciplines currently based in the region from Hue to the North of VietNam, regardless of origin. Priority is given to those who haven’t prior experiences working with the Goethe Institut and AirHue.

For those currently based in the region from Da Nang to the South of Viet Nam, please reach out to the Goethe Institut for information on other residencies that the Goethe Institut is concurrently supporting OR stay tuned for AirHue’s next open call.

Selection procedure

Decisions made during the selection process are at AirHue organizing committee’s and curator’s discretion, with the participation in the jury of a representative of Goethe-Institut and an external artist to ensure the objective and diverse perspective of the selection. Several factors will be carefully considered, including the feasibility of the proposed project, our ability to accommodate the artist’s needs, and the capacities of our program’s resources. While we strive to support a diverse range of projects, the final decision will reflect both the project’s alignment with our goals and the practical logistics involved in ensuring a successful residency.
