You are invited to a dance film screening “Sasha Waltz: Avenue of Cosmonauts” directed by Sasha Waltz. Sasha Waltz’s artistic works have won many national and international awards, for example, the German Federal Cross of Merit this year. This film is part of a prelude to “Europe meets Vietnam in Contemporary Dance” on 08, 09 Sep.

Sasha Waltz is considered a major innovator of dance theater after Pina Bausch. Born 1963 in Karlsruhe, she began dance lessons as a child. After high school graduation she completed dance studies in Amsterdam and New York.

In 1993 Sasha Waltz, together with her husband Jochen Sandig, founded the dance company Sasha Waltz & Guests in Berlin. Her international breakthrough came in 1996 with the choreography Avenue of Cosmonauts. With this piece, Sasha Waltz inaugurated the Sophiensaele Berlin as an independent venue, and she remains a member to this day. With this highly successful piece Sasha Waltz created a compassionate and ironic portrait of a family living in a cramped East Berlin apartment.
