From Bookworm:

George Burchet was born in Hanoi in 1955 and lived here until 1957 when his family moved to Moscow and some years later to France. George traces his journey back to Hanoi using photographs of colonial Indochina taken by his Australian father Wilfred Burchett (‘Public Enemy Number One’). George discusses his new project documenting those countries and their first two years free of colonial domination.

You are invited to a discussion “From Hanoi to Hanoi, the Long Journey Home” with George Burchet.

George, an internationally exhibited artist, again lives in Hanoi and is working on a book, exhibition and film project about Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos documenting those first two years free of French colonial rule. His father was famous Australian journalist Wilfred Burchett and his mother was Bulgarian journalist and art historian Vessa Ossikovoska. In 1957 the family moved to Moscow.

We all know the tragedies that befell these three countries in the years that followed.

THE QUESTION GEORGE PONDERS WITH YOU IS……….WHY?

His guides in this journey back in time are a unique collection of photographs taken by his father, Wilfred, as he was travelling through the countries of former Indochina collecting material for two books NORTH OF THE 17TH PARALLEL and MEKONG UPSTREAM: CAMBODIA AND LAOS
