Do you like converting a flat piece of paper into a three dimensional garment shape?
The course will introduce you the basic techniques for women’s wear pattern cutting. You will learn how to daft standard size templates (blocks) and you will investigate how to make a range of pattern pieces for the bodice, collars, skirt and sleeve. You also have the opportunity to discuss different styles and how to alter your patterns to create different shapes. The course will cover a brief introduction to sizing and how you can modify your patterns for a better fit. On the completion of this course, you will be confident to create life size patterns for clothing.

Techniques you will learn
– Use pattern making tools and equipments with health & safety
– How to take correct body measurements and how they relate to the blocks.
– The skirt block and how to take your pattern from the block; darts manipulation and how to turn darts into seams.
– Skirt Styles – Panel, Flare, Pleats, Gathers, Frills and Flounce etc.
– The Bodice Block : Darts and dart manipulation; moving darts into seams, Princess line seam, Necklines, Facings , Adding fullness Button stand
– Sleeves: Basic 1 piece sleeve, cut and spread, cuffs
– Collars: Basic Collars – Mandarin collar, Peter Pan collar, Roll collar
You will draft a full-scale pattern for a Skirt or Blouse of your own design to include seam allowances, annotations and all pattern markings. Students are required to bring in all the works to the class for assessment at the end of the course.
