You are invited to a screening of the film “Breathless” as part of the program FILMstoryteller 18: Month of Jean-Luc Godard’s films at Heritage Space.
A pioneer of the Nouvelle Vague (French new wave), Jean-Luc Godard has had an incalculable effect on modern cinema that refuses to wane. Before directing, Godard was an ethnology student and a critic for Cahiers du cinéma, and his approach to filmmaking reflects his interest in how cinematic form intertwines with social reality. He revolutionized the motion picture form, freeing the medium from the shackles of its long-accepted cinematic language by rewriting the rules of narrative, continuity, sound, and camera work. Later in his career, he also challenged the common means of feature production, distribution, and exhibition, all in an effort to subvert the conventions of the Hollywood formula to create a new kind of film.

The movie will be shown in French and English with English subtitles. Follow-up discussion will be held at the end of the screening.

About the project:
“FILM storyteller” is a screening program that concentrates on the diversity of accesses and ways of reading film from the vision of a storyteller – writer like a filmmaker. Through 3 activities: screening – discussion – review, like a suggestion, we consider a film as a material to raise awareness and encourage individual expressions from participants. We call for every discovery/submission/encounter/experience from the host/audience/filmmaker to generate discussions, and more. Each participant will be given a chance to experience and challenge himself/herself in various roles to further the narratives.
About the organizer:
Heritage Space is a combination of a gallery, library, concert hall, co-working space, boarding room and outdoor space with the possibility of organizing exhibitions, concerts and performances, education and exchange, artists residency programs, and many other activities. Run by a team of curators, art researchers, and artists, Heritage Space apsires to become an intersection of individuals/groups/ organizations from a wide range of domestic and international creative fields, with a long-term goal to support and develop the creative industry in Vietnam.
