From the ỏganizer:

The event invites the audience into the artistic worlds of two female artists, Rosemarie Trockel and Lại Diệu Hà, through a dual exhibition currently on display at two venues in Hanoi—a distinctive dialogue about social perspectives conveyed through the language of art. This will be an open conversation featuring curator An Paenhuysen, artist Lại Diệu Hà, local curator Nguyễn Anh Tuấn, and the audience, moderated by art writer and journalist Trương Uyên Ly.

As an art historian, educator, and curator, An Paenhuysen has collaborated for years on exhibitions that have showcased Rosemarie Trockel’s work in various countries worldwide. She will share insights into the unique characteristics of artworks by the renowned German conceptual artist, Rosemarie Trocke, whose powerful views on gender inequality entrenched in everyday stereotypes, and how art opens dialogues and critiques traditional norms. The audience will also learn about the artist’s rich creative versatility, navigating between traditional forms and materials such as painting and craft to digital-age mediums like photography and video.

Meanwhile, artist Lại Diệu Hà will share her perspective as a female artist, a mother, and an independent creator developing her practice in a society that has experienced severe gender imbalances and is undergoing significant shifts in awareness in recent years. She will explore how such constraints have served as both a motivator and a source of creative material, transforming into a powerful medium of expression in her art.

These two perspectives will be complemented by contributions from curator Nguyễn Anh Tuấn, who brings extensive experience working with artists across generations, backgrounds, and nations or communities. He will demonstrate how art can effectively create inclusive spaces and promote social awareness. As the moderator, Trương Uyên Ly—also a female writer actively engaged in the contemporary art media landscape—will add her personal insights while facilitating a profound and open dialogue with the audience about these conversations.
