From the organizer:

Following its inaugural launch in 2024 and the enthusiastic reception from Vietnam’s creative and design communities, 3 Weeks of Design, the annual program initiated and curated by Gallery Medium, officially returns this July with the theme “The Culture of Objects.” From July 5 to 26, 2025, Gallery Medium becomes a space for imagination and dialogue, where objects move beyond function to become vessels of memory, emotion, and cultural meaning, each shaped by the designer’s lens.

Aiming to build a specialised yet approachable platform for art and design, reminiscent of Milan Design Week or New York Design Week, 3 Weeks of Design represents Gallery Medium’s long-term commitment to nurturing a distinct design landscape in Vietnam. This year’s theme, The Culture of Objects, does not seek to idealise design as merely a tool for problem-solving. Instead, it embraces design as a means of storytelling, emotional expression, and reinterpretation of everyday life.

The 2025 edition brings together 43 emerging designers and 15 contemporary ceramic artists currently practising in Vietnam, alongside a selection of local furniture brands and international designers. The works on display will span industrial design, furniture, contemporary craft, material experimentation, and abstract forms, a visual symphony celebrating material culture in a new era.

For the first time, Gallery Medium has launched a design competition as part of the program, centred around the theme “Hook”, a small but ever-present object in daily life. Often overlooked in terms of design, the hook is both a starting point and a connector, a place of anchoring and transition.

The competition drew over 200 submissions from across Vietnam and abroad. From these, 43 finalists were selected — not only professional designers but also independent artists, self-taught creatives, and those practising a raw, intuitive design approach (design brut). Contestants experimented with a wide range of materials, including wood, metal, ceramic, fabric, and recycled plastic, offering diverse perspectives on an object that is seemingly simple yet rich with narrative.

These works will be exhibited throughout the three-week event at Gallery Medium. Awards will be presented in five categories: Best Design, Best Concept, Best Fabrication, Best Sustainable Practice, and People’s Favourite, all voted on by the public. Results will be announced at the closing ceremony on July 26, 2025.

Running parallel is the Ceramic Exhibition, showcasing standout works from ceramic artists currently practising in Vietnam. Though all work with clay as the central material, each artist brings a unique interpretation. This selection demonstrates the emotive and conceptual power of a medium often regarded as humble and familiar.

This year’s Furniture Exhibition creates a dialogue between local and global design practices. Vietnamese brands such as Laita, Oho Studios, Exutoire, and NOM Furniture will be presented alongside iconic works such as Frank Lloyd Wright, Gio Ponti, or Kazuhiro Takahama, made possible through a special collaboration between Gallery Medium and Eurasia Concept. The diversity in aesthetics, materials, and design philosophy offers an engaging cross-generational and cross-contextual conversation.

Beyond exhibitions, 3 Weeks of Design 2025 is a space of connection and dialogue, where the public, designers, artists, students, and art enthusiasts can gather, exchange ideas, and explore the evolving role of design in contemporary life. A series of Design Talks and special sessions will be held throughout the event, fostering multi-perspective discussions led by experts, researchers, and practitioners from various disciplines.

With an open, inclusive, and interdisciplinary spirit, 3 Weeks of Design 2025 is more than just an event; it is a journey into the heart of design and art, where every object carries a story, a voice, and a unique identity.
