From British Council:
Cinema fans in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City can enjoy a wide selection of recent films at the European Union Film Festival 2012 catering for audiences of all ages. The British Council is participating in the EU Film Festival 2012 with Charles Dickens‘ ‘Oliver Twist’ celebrating the bicentenary of one of the world’s most inspiring authors.
Set in 1848, Oliver Twist is the story of an orphan, born in a workhouse and brought up in harsh and cruel conditions, half-starved by the corrupt parish authorities. He later finds employment at an undertaker’s which he eventually escapes and makes his way to London where he falls in with the Artful Dodger, a boy of his own age, who introduces him to the villainous Fagin.
Director of British Council Vietnam Robin Rickard commented: “It’s a timeless story by a celebrated author who is more popular than ever and his impact on stage and screen has only been heightened by the recent bicentenary celebrations.
“We’re delighted to be able to bring the story to Vietnamese audiences who I am absolutely sure will enjoy it immensely just as international audiences have for generations.
