Johnny Cash

Sun 24 May 2015, 7 pm
Salon Van Hoa, Cafe Thu bay

From Goethe Institut:

Famous German graphic novel artist Reinhard Kleist will show his drawing skills in a live show in which his drawings will be inspired by songs of Johnny Cash. While a band will perform the country musician’s music, Kleist will create a drawing to each single song played. A camera installed at the artist’s desk will allow the audience to witness the development of the art works live as Kleist’s drawings bring music-legend Johnny Cash back to life.

Apart from his work on new novels and comic-strips, Kleist offers workshops for young artist and gives speeches on comic-strips and graphic novels all over the world.

After studying graphic design, Kleist moved to Berlin. Stays abroad in New York and Havanna provided him with further inspiration. His works comprise award-winning graphic novels about Fidel Castro (Castro, 2010) and the Jewish boxer Hertzko Haft (The Boxer, 2012).

Biography:

Reinhard Kleist, born in 1970 near Cologne, studied graphic design in Münster. Currently he lives in Berlin, where he shares the studio BerlinComix with the comic artists Fil, Naomi Fearn and Mawil.
