From Maison des Arts:
You are invited to a Photography Exhibition “Impact for Peace”. This is a photography exhibition and art space displaying 40 black and white pictures of photographer Sean Sutton.
This exhibition aims to provide an insight into the lives of people still affected by a conflict that ended more than 35 years ago and to show how MAG’s work in removing unexploded ordnance is creating positive impacts in communities. This exhibition is a celebration of more than a decade’s work by MAG in Vietnam, and at the same time to highlight that there is a still an ongoing and future need for the clearance of explosive remnants of war in Vietnam.
About photographer Sean Sutton
For more than 20 years Sean Sutton has been travelled around the world to document the lives of people during and after conflict through the lens of a camera. From 1989 to 1991 he photographed the Karen in Burma and then for the next five years Sean repeatedly travelled to the former Yugoslavia, Cambodia, Afghanistan, Angola, Albania and Laos.
As well as the international press, Sean also regularly worked with aid agencies covering a range of aid and development themes. By 1993, and as a result of his first-hand experiences, Sean had taken the decision to focus on landmines and always managed to spend time photographing the subject whatever the assignment.
For the last fourteen years Sean has worked with the Mines Advisory Group (MAG) and has travelled constantly from such countries as Lebanon, Sri Lanka, Iraq, Vietnam and Sudan, documenting the humanitarian impact of landmines, unexploded munitions (UXO), small arms and other deadly remnants of conflict and the solutions that MAG provides.
The resulting material has made it possible to design and produce photo packages, exhibitions, films and publications as part of MAG’s multi-media approach to public education on the subject.
His photographs have been widely published in newspapers and magazines, he has received a number of awards and exhibitions of his work have been held all over the world.
